4th of July in Waltham: What to Do This Independence Day Weekend

Purple Firework Violet firework

Waltham has its own Fourth of July, and it’s a good one. The city puts on a community celebration anchored around the Charles River, with fireworks launched from a barge over the water near the Moody Street Bridge. Add the regional draws nearby like Lexington’s historically significant parade, the Boston Pops at the Esplanade, and the Charles River corridor…and you have a long weekend worth planning.

Uma Flowers Cannabis Dispensary is the neighborhood stop before any of it begins. Browse the menu, pre-order for pickup, and show up ready for the weekend!

July 4th Events in and Around Waltham 2026

1. Waltham Independence Day Celebration

Waltham rings in the Fourth with its annual fireworks show on Sunday, June 28th, launched from a barge on the Charles River near the Moody Street Bridge starting at dusk.

The bridge will be closed to cars and open to pedestrians only beginning at 4:00 PM, making it a prime spot to watch the show from the Riverwalk. Note that Prospect Hill Park will not host any events this year, and no additional celebrations are planned through July 5th.

2. Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular

The Boston Pops’ annual July 4th concert on the Charles River Esplanade returns with a star-studded lineup, featuring special guests Lainey Wilson, Chance The Rapper, and Trombone Shorty performing alongside Keith Lockhart and the orchestra.

Joining them on the Hatch Shell stage are the Boston Children’s Chorus, Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes and Drums, Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and the USS Constitution Color Guard, all coming together to mark both Independence Day and Massachusetts and America’s 250th anniversary.

3. Lexington Lions Club 70th Annual July 4th Carnival

The Lexington Lions Club marks its 70th Annual July 4th Carnival at Hastings Park, running July 1st through 5th with rides, games, food, and family fun across multiple days of festivities. The carnival opens Wednesday, July 1st, with a dedicated session for special needs students from 3:00–5:00 PM before the general carnival runs 6:00–11:00 PM, and fireworks light up the sky on Thursday, July 2nd at 9:30 PM.

Saturday, July 4th adds free Old Fashioned Youth Games from 10:00 AM to noon at the softball field before the carnival opens at 1:00 PM, with the event wrapping up Sunday, July 5th at 6:00 PM.

Beyond being a beloved community tradition, the carnival also serves as one of the Lexington Lions Club’s signature fundraisers, with proceeds supporting local charitable causes and community service projects throughout the year.

Choose from our curated selection of gummies, caramels, chocolates, and even beverages infused with premium THC. Our edibles start as low as 5mg of THC per serving, which provides the perfect mellow high for fireworks.

Want something stronger? Pick up a THC tincture and measure out your own serving size. You can even add it to your favorite juice, tea, coffee, or mocktail to create an infused beverage instantly.

Just take it before heading to the show to give it time to kick in as the first firework goes off. Plus, you’ll save on both edibles and tinctures during our July 4th weed deals.

Where to Spend the Day in Waltham

Moody Street is Waltham’s main dining and social corridor that’s walkable, lined with restaurants and bars, and busy throughout the holiday weekend. Expect increased foot traffic on the evening of the fireworks.

Gore Place is a historic estate and museum site that serves as a peaceful outdoor option during the day. The gardens, open grounds, and architecture are worth the short drive from downtown. Brandeis University’s campus offers accessible open green space near the residential area of Waltham.
